Candidiasis, or chronic yeast - tips Empty Candidiasis, or chronic yeast - tips

I've had chronic yeast for as long as I can remember. The cause of it would probably be easy to track down, all the antibiotics for sinus infections among other already when I was little, birth control pills when in my twenties...

Whatever the cause, it's chronic, causing not only the vaginal yeast infection but bloatedness and all kinds of skin symptoms like flaky, itchy skin and acne. These always get worse along with my PMDD getting worse.

Having killed it for a couple of years by a combination of taking yeast antibiotics and probiotics and then going on a sugar-free diet, also cutting out wheat and a whole lot of other non yeastfriendly foods for six months did away with all the symptoms. They came back, however, at some point, probably because I started gradually eating 'forbidden' stuff. Maybe also due to my progesterone intolerance that appears to have grown increasingly bad.

Keeping it somewhat under control these days for me entails trying to stick with the diet as much as I can, but I also take vitamin B, a combo, and I take at least double the dose recommended. This immediately helps with the flaky and itching skin. I also find that magnesium seems to help.

Another thing that helps with the skin problems is actually anti-dandruff shampoo, so I use Head & Shoulders as both shampoo and shower gel.

I get very bloated when it's bad, and although green tea helps with my bloatedness in general it doesn't help much when the yeast turns aggressive. Being bloated from yeast feels different than being bloated from water retention, it's as if your stomach and intestines are swollen and full of something when they're really not. This is always a sign that the yeast is aggressive to the point that I have to take yeast antibiotics, making sure I take a probiotic as well to maintain the natural bacteria that are killed by the yeast. Always take the probiotic a few hours after taking the antibiotic as otherwise the antibiotic will kill the bacteria it's supposed to add and help maintain.

My yeast follows my menstrual cycle and gets worse the worse my PMDD gets. I try to keep the diet strict during the 'better' days when I can manage to motivate myself to take care of myself at least a little, and if I succeed during those days then naturally I won't crave sugar or carbs and it won't get as aggressive as it does when I don't manage to 'make use of' my better days.

At the moment it is pretty bad, probably due to the hormone treatment I was on so I'm back in square one and have taken a yeast antibiotic two days ago. It hasn't gotten any better though so I have a long road ahead trying to get it under control.

Any tips and advice are warmly welcomed at the moment, I haven't really done any research on how to cure it in years so all my ways of handling it stems from what I learned fifteen years ago...

I don't have any tips other than the coconut oil... but what I really wanted to do was ask you what you eat during the day.

I wonder if my problem is also yeast. I have the same symptoms and I know part of it was yeast... but I find it really hard to avoid sugar and yeast and wheat.. or I avoid the wheat but then load up on the yeast because gluten free bread will not rise without yeast. Laughing

so what do you eat? Smile how do you avoid all that sugar? I'm serious I want like a detailed list of foods. lol! I want to try and change my diet.

Oh, what do I eat... I guess I just don't eat anything with sugar in it. And no potatoes, no pasta, no rice, although I eat brown rice sometimes. I eat bread but it's whole rye and there's no yeast in it, so it's not fluffy but it's sort of moist and very tasty.

Basically, if I make say a sauce I would usually have with pasta, be it tomato or cream or whatever I substitute the pasta with cooked vegetables. Or lentals (how do you spell that?)

Hmm, what else. Well, peanuts, almonds and nuts in general, and for a snack I might have a piece of cheese. Sounds really boring doesn't it no way  It's not but I guess I'm so used to it. Must sound disgustingly healthy but I love fat, like cream. Love cream. And cheese. So I guess when I cook I use loads of cream and cheese for instance and that makes up for the pasta I could have when I have something like string beans with the sauce instead.

It's kind of a LCHF thing, the yeast diet I was on for six months years ago was really strict and you couldn't eat fruit at all, and some vegetables were off limit. I can't remember exactly but it was strict and I lost so much weight people thought I was anorectic. The diet I'm on now is more like a LCHF that I've adjusted so it fits me. Usually when I'm on it I lose weight easily and sometimes I have to eat pasta or something now and then to not lose weight. Lately not, but I guess it's hormones and, well, yeast. Can't just get rid of that yeast right now, maybe when all these hormones I was taking are flushed out of my system.

Anyway, I was pretty much into the Montignac method and that's pretty much what I still apply. He's French so according to him it's ok and even recommendable that you have a little treat now and then drunken

Here's a link to it if you want to check it out, the most important thing is I guess to try different things out and see how it works for you and make your own adjustments. I only know one thing for sure and that is that my blood sugar is under control when I apply the diet, and I don't feel disgustingly full like ever like I do after having a plate of pasta or french fries or anything.

Candidiasis, or chronic yeast - tips Empty Re: Candidiasis, or chronic yeast - tips

Smile Oh, this is good info! I have started avoiding plain white rice too and eating brown rice. Rice is a huge staple in our house because it's cheap, but I know that this can pack on pounds. Koreans try to offset the rice with protein and veggies. I tried to get the family to switch to brown rice too, but none of them like the flavor.

I was doing gluten-free pasta when we had spaghetti.. but I will have to try just using veggies instead. I think I'd enjoy that much better anyway. And it'll probably cost less than GF noodles!!!!

We used to eat a lot of potatoes but stopped recently because we were getting sick of them. lol. They are cheap though. I looked at the Glycemic Index thing at the Montignac site, and it's kind of confusing. Some of the low GI foods are also high in fat.. I'll have to read into it more so I understand it better.

Nuts are sooooooo expensive here. I was eating those regularly but it just got too costly. I think a half a kg bag (1 pound) of pecans, for example, is about $15!!! Almonds are crazy expensive. The really good gluten free recipes ask for almond flour, but OML that stuff is just too expensive. I miss my nuts! LOLOLOL

Yeah, most of that is really expensive. I used to eat gf pasta at some point, but yes, costs a lot. And anyway, as low carb is very, very trendy here they make tons of products that people pay ridiculous amounts of money for. I saw dark chocolate coated peanuts and was going to buy them, some 150 grams I think, but the price. Almost five euros!!!! But there's a lot that you can eat and still avoid stuff that feeds the yeast, just have to go through a little trouble to inform yourself and it takes some getting used to, of course.

I love brown rice...

Shocked  That is insane!! We have chocolate and sweet shoppes around here and they charge a ridiculous amount for something I could actually make myself probably much better. But they are very popular and stay in business somehow. I don't get it. Especially with this economy. How are they staying afloat?

Soon though, chocolate will be like that. Soon it will be like buying gold. Not looking forward to that.... hey! Now I can't find the crying smiley! Something is screwy here...
